At one point or another, we’ve all had to deal with five am flights and sleepy mornings at the terminal. Rather than losing out on sleep and stressing about getting to the airport on time, try these three easy steps to ensure you arrive at check-in swiftly and smoothly.

Pack Everything Early

This may seem like an obvious point, however, a recent study shows that over 75% of holidaymakers and business travellers end up packing their suitcases with last minute items on the day of their flight, even when they have an early morning flight. Although it may take only 15 minutes in the morning, packing last minute items means unnecessarily time and stress right before you travel. It also means that when you go to sleep before your flight, you are unable to properly switch off because you’re aware of the important items that haven’t been packed yet.

Instead of rushing to find your camera charger, USB cable, and passport on the morning of your flight, start packing two days before you travel and make a list of the items that still need to be packed to ensure that you have everything you need before you go to sleep. This way you will have more time in the morning before heading to the airport and also a more restful night’s sleep, knowing that all of your possessions are properly packed.

Plan Your Route

Heading to the airport in the morning traffic can be frustrating when you’re pressed for time, which is why it’s a good idea to know the route you’re taking. If you know you’ll be driving to the airport, become familiar with the traffic reports, so that you are aware what time is the best time to hit the road and miss the morning rush hour. Also, be sure to pre-book your airport parking to save 60% compared to park-on-the-day prices. You can opt for a meet and greet option – where a chauffeur picks up your car outside the terminal and drives it to a secure parking space – that will make your arrival and transition to check-in even smoother.

Should you be travelling by train or bus, also make sure to know your route well so that you don’t get off at the wrong stop or miscalculate the time it takes to arrive at the airport. Buy your transport tickets before you travel, so that you miss the queues, and bring a train schedule and map in case you get lost.

Book An Airport Hotel

Perhaps the easiest way to ensure a stress-free morning before your early flight is to book an airport hotel. You can treat yourself to a restful night’s sleep and easy access to the terminal for reasonable prices and choose from a range of hotels. From names like Holiday Inn and Travelodge to choose from, there is a selection of accommodation to suit different budgets and needs. Click here for a full list of hotels to choose from, available with or without parking options. All hotels offered have quick and easy access to the Glasgow airport terminals and are offered at reasonable prices, so that you can experience peace of mind and get on your flight feeling refreshed and ready to start your business trip or holiday.

Glasgow airport offers a number of different options for parking. There is short stay for when you are dropping someone off, or collecting them, long stay for when you want to leave your car while you’re on holiday, and valet parking for those occasions when you want to be right there at the terminal with your car.

Short Stay Parking
Short stay parking is most useful for when you only plan on staying for a short time – say a couple of hours when you’re dropping someone off, or collecting them. It can be used for up to 12 hours however if needed, but the charges are quite high for this.

Short stay car parks at Glasgow are within easy walking distance of the terminal and have disabled bay for use by disabled passengers which are closest to the terminal. Wheelchairs are available by request from the various airlines, but do need to be pre-booked. A new pickup/drop off point is also available too. This is only for very very short use of no more than 10 minutes and is located directly opposite the main terminal on the ground floor.

Long Stay Parking
Glasgow airport parking is for when you want to park your car at the airport while you go away on holiday. The car parks are further from the terminal building and include Airparks Glasgow and Glasgow NCP Flightpath, transfer by courtesy coach is available and takes approximately five minutes to get you to the terminal.

You can just arrive and hope for a space, but it is more advisable to pre-book your space as not only is this cheaper as most long stay car parks offer discounts for advanced bookings, but it will also guarantee you a space. Glasgow airport has seven long stay car parks.

Valet Parking
If you need long stay car parking, but don’t want to use a bus to transfer from your car to the terminal, you could opt for one of Glasgow airport’s meet and greet valet services. This means you’ll get a chauffeur meeting you at a pre-arranged time at your departure terminal, and removing the car to a secure compound where it will stay till your return. When you arrive back from your journey, your car will be delivered to you at your terminal again.

Airport Hotel Parking
Staying in an airport hotel with parking is an option which many people don’t consider assuming it will be far more expensive, however, it can on occasion work out to be around the same price or even cheaper than parking on it’s own, and is often much more convenient if your flight leaves very early in the morning. At Glasgow there are nine airport hotels to choose from.
